“Why so serious?”

Why so serious, indeed. Here’s to the best performance of the Joker in cinema. Yes, Jack Nicholson’s Joker was iconic in Tim Burton’s Batman, and Mark Hamill’s cackle in the animated series rings out in my memory. But I feel like all of that was far surpassed by the late Heath Ledger’s unsettling portrayal of the classic villain.

I made this little Dark Knight edition of the Joker in 2022, and it was definitely a labor of love compared to some of the other critters I’ve made! It always comes down to the hair. Hair is usually the most time-consuming part of any critter, but making the hair for this creepy little guy was a different beast, because I wanted it to be a little messy, a little stringy like it is in the movie. So after painstakingly attaching each strand, I unraveled each one, gave them a slight curl, and then dirtied it up a bit with some dark paint. Worth the effort! The creepy smile was the easiest part, and a very satisfying final touch to add on that now-classic creepy, haphazardly painted grin.

And just for fun, here’s a photo of the first Joker I made back in 2014, along with a little Harley Quinn! Back when I was a baby hooker. šŸ˜€

This one was based on the Joker from Batman: The Animated Series. A bit more cartoony, but still menacing nonetheless. Two different styles, still the same unhinged clown terrorizing Gotham city!
