It’s that time.

It’s that time of year where I’ll grudgingly post a few holiday-related things, but at the end of the day I’m still a certified Christmas grump. I may not be a greedy asshole like Mr. Scrooge, but I definitely feel his annoyance at the season!
Look, I’m just not a fan of Christmas, okay? I’ve got my reasons:
- IT LASTS FOR 3 MONTHS. It gets dragged out for so long, even Halloween can’t have a moment to itself. I don’t need to elves and holly and gift-giving pressure thrown on me for THREE MONTHS.
- Christmas is only fun when you’re a kid. You get gifts, teachers are giving everyone extra cookies and candy in class, and there’s all sorts of fun stuff to do. When you’re an adult you’re blowing your paycheck on gifts on top of the general pressure of finding the right gifts for people. You’re going to holiday parties with people you don’t want to be around, but you have to show up to have some face time because it’s “in the spirit.” Ugly sweaters are fun though, I’ll roll with that.
- Christmas music grates my nerves. Anyone who’s had to work retail during the holidays will know this pain. Certain Christmas tunes still make me twitch because I had to hear them on repeat for 10-14 hours a day when I used to work in a retail setting.
- Christmas movies vs. Halloween movies: Halloween movies are just more fun. Home Alone is a treasure though, I won’t touch that one!
Anyway, that’s my Scroogey spiel there. Otherwise lookit Mr. Scrooge, with his grumpy glasses. That cheery wreath someone threw on him ain’t fooling anybody!

He might be a miserly old man who may or may not die alone, but I’m with him when it comes to the bah humbug towards the season!

Meanwhile I guess this little guy is feeling festive:

I’m just saying he might make for a nice pint-sized gift for someone. 😀
At any rate, if you’re looking for a holiday craft or a gift idea, the pattern for Mr. Scrooge is in my book Literary Yarns, and the pattern for the porg is over in the patterns section of this blog! Go forth, and do all your holiday crafting!
