We could all be a little more like Sherlock Holmes in our daily lives. If we had the same high levels of deductive reasoning and sharp eye for observation, we wouldn’t be losing our keys as much, or spending so much time figuring out if the person you’ve been chatting with on Tinder is catfishing you. Given it could lead to some unhealthy personal habits, like smoking, lack of sleep, or listening to true crime podcasts and then emailing the hosts about how they’re all wrong. So it’d make you an insufferable “well, aCtuAlly…” kind of asshole, but if you cut back on that part you’d save SO MUCH time by not having to deal with life’s mundane mysteries. Like finding out who’s been stealing people’s lunches out of the work fridge. Or wondering where your missing sock went.
When it comes to British literature, there’s a treasure trove of classics to pick from, but Sherlock Holmes to me is one of the most visually iconic characters out there. The deerstalker cap and cloak are unmistakably associated with Sherlock, so it was an easy choice for me to include him when I was coming up with characters to put in my book Literary Yarns!
I’ll be bringing this little Sherlock along with the little Ted Lasso from my last post to London in a few weeks! Find one of them around London from 3/23-3/26 and it’s yours to keep! If you’ve never followed my drops before, here’s what you need to know:
- Follow me on Instagram or Threads. Clues will be posted to both platforms.
- Set up a mobile alert on your phone! This isn’t required, but it’ll help! This way your phone will notify you every time I make a post, so you won’t miss a single drop! Instructions on how to set this up can be found here for Instagram and here for Threads.
- One critter will be dropped each day.
- Critters can be dropped indoors or outdoors, and will be in areas that are legally accessible. They will mostly be left in plain sight (ex. you shouldn’t have to dig through anything or open containers that shouldn’t be opened)
- If you find a critter, let me know that you found it! Please check in if you find a critter! Each one is tagged with a card with my contact info, I just ask for two things if you find one: 1) Send me a photo of your new friend, and 2) Let me know where the critter’s new home will be so I can add it to my map! I do this knowing that there’s a potential that anyone could swipe the critter and never get back to me, but it doesn’t make it any less disheartening when one goes missing.
No specific hints on where these little guys will be dropped, and I’ll drop them whenever the time and place feels right! Find one and it’s yours to keep! Happy hunting!
