Unless otherwise noted, all crocheting is to be done in a continuous spiral.

Head:

Round 1: Sc 6 in a magic ring. {6}

Round 2: [Sc 2 in one stitch] 6 times. {12}

Round 3: [Sc 1, sc 2 in one stitch] 6 times. {18}

Round 4: [Sc 2, sc 2 in one stitch] 6 times. {24}

Round 5: [Sc 3, sc 2 in one stitch] 6 times, changing to sky blue yarn in the last stitch. {30}

Round 6: [Sc 4, sc 2 in one stitch] 6 times. {36}

Rounds 7-11: Sc 36. {36}

Round 12: [Sc 4, dec 1] 6 times. {30}

Round 13: [Sc 3, dec 1] 6 times. {24}

Round 14: [Sc 2, dec 1] 6 times. {18}

Stuff head firmly, then continue crocheting. 

Round 15: [Sc 1, dec 1] 6 times. {12}

Round 16: Dec 6. {6}

Fasten off, close the piece, and weave in the end.

BODY:

Using sky blue yarn:

Leaving a leading tail approximately 10 inches long, ch 20, then join back in the first ch to form a loop.

Rounds 1-5: Sc 20. {20}

Round 6: Sl st in first sc, then ch 2 and sl st at the 10th stitch in the round to make a dividing line. Sc 12 around one of the loops to begin forming a leg. Be mindful of the direction you crochet in, making sure you crochet with the correct side facing out so that it will be in the correct orientation. {12}

Round 7: Sc 12 around the same loop as in Round 6. Change to white yarn in the last stitch. {12}

Round 8: In front loops only, [sc 3, inc 1] 3 times. {15}

Round 9: Sc 15. {15}

Round 10: Dec 7, sc 1. {8}

Round 11: Dec 4. {4}

Fasten off, close the piece, and weave in the end.

To make Doraemon’s other leg:

Using sky blue yarn,

Round 1:  Holding the body upside down, join your yarn to the open loop and sc 12 around the loop. {12} 

Round 2: Sc 12. Change to white yarn in the last stitch. {12}

Round 3: In front loops only, [Sc 3, inc 1] 3 times. {15}

Round 4: Sc 15. {15}

Round 5: Dec 7, sc 1. {8}

Round 6: Dec 4. {4}

Fasten off, close the piece, and weave in the end.

Stuff the body and set aside.

ARMS (make x2):

Starting with white yarn:

Round 1: Sc 6 in a magic ring. {6}

Round 2: [Sc 1, inc 1] 3 times. {9}

Round 3: Sc 9. {9}

Round 4: [Sc 1, dec 1] 3 times. Change to sky blue yarn in the last stitch.

Rounds 5-7: Sc 6. {6}

Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing. Flatten the open ends of the arms and sew closed with a whipstitch.

Assembly and Details:

Position the head onto the body, tilting it forward slightly so that the white face circle connects with the body at around round 2-3 from the center of the spiral. Pin in place. Sew the head to the body and weave in the end.

Using white felt, cut two circles approximately 0.5” in diameter to make the eyes. Using black acrylic paint or a black permanent marker, draw on two black dots on the circles to make the pupils of the eyes. Glue the eyes in place towards the top of the face. Glue a red pom-pom between the eyes to make a nose. Using black embroidery floss, sew on Doraemon’s mouth and whiskers.

Sew on one arm to each side.

Using white felt, cut a small oval to make Doraemon’s belly. Cut it straight across the top to line up with his neck and glue on. Cut out a smaller semi-circle to make his pouch and glue to his belly.

Using a strip of red felt or a red ribbon, glue around the neck to make a collar. Attach the gold-colored jingle bell to the center of the collar.

Finally, glue a red pom-pom to Doraemon’s bottom to make a tail!
