body:

FRONT PANEL:

Using teal yarn:

Row 1: Ch 17, turn and sc 16. {16}

Row 2: Sc 16. {16}

Rows 3-10: Sc 2, ch 1 then turn. {2}

Row 11: Sc 2, then ch 15 and turn. {2 sc + ch 15}

Row 12: Sc 16, ch 1 and turn. {16}

Rows 13-23: Sc 16, ch 1 and turn. {16}

Fasten off and cut the yarn. Weave in the end.

Using teal yarn, join with the last stitch of row 2, then do the following:

Rows 1-8: Sc 2, ch 1 and turn. {2}

Fasten off and leave a short tail for sewing. Then sew the piece to the end of row 11, forming a window.

ALTERNATE PATTERN FOR FRONT PANEL:

If you don’t want a slightly recessed screen on BMO, you can follow these directions to have BMO’s screen crocheted directly in-line with the front panel:

Using teal yarn:

Row 1: Ch 17, turn and sc 16. {16}

Row 2: Sc 16. {16}

Rows 3-10: Sc 2, change to mint green yarn. Sc 12, change to teal yarn. Sc 2, ch 1 then turn. {16}

Rows 11-23: Sc 16, ch 1 and turn. {16}

Fasten off and weave in the end.

face:

(NOTE: SKIP THIS IF YOU USED THE ALTERNATE PATTERN FOR THE FRONT PANEL)

Using mint green yarn:

Row 1: Ch 15, turn, sc 14. {14}

Rows 2-10: Sc 14, ch 1 and turn.

Fasten off and leave a tail approximately 15” for sewing. 

Sew the face panel to the underside of the front panel, positioning it one row wider than the window all around. Take care to sew only to the stitches on the backside so that the mint green yarn doesn’t show through the front.

Sew the black beads to the face or attach two safety eyes to make two eyes, separated approximately 8 stitches apart. Using black embroidery floss, sew on a mouth.

BACK PANEL:

Row 1: Ch 17, turn, sc 16. {16}

Rows 2-23: Sc 16, ch 1 and turn. {16}

Fasten off and leave a tail approximately 40” long.

SIDES:

Note: each segment should result in the following total row counts – 16, 23, 16, 23.

Row 1: Ch 7, turn, sc 6 across. {6}

Rows 2-16: Sc 6, ch 1 and turn. {6} (15 rows)

Row 17: In front loops only, sc 6. Ch 1 and turn. {6}

Rows 18-39: Sc 6, ch 1 and turn. {6} (22 rows)

Row 40: In back loops only, sc 6. Ch 1 and turn. {6}

Rows 41-55: Sc 6, ch 1 and turn. {6} (15 rows)

Row 56: In back loops only, sc 6. Ch 1 and turn. {6}

Rows 57-78: Sc 6, ch 1 and turn. {6} (22 rows)

Fasten off and leave a tail approximately 40” long for sewing.

Arms (make x2):

Ch 4, then crochet an i-cord for 15 rows. Fasten off and leave a short tail for sewing.

Legs (make x2):

Ch 4, then crochet an i-cord for 9 rows. Fasten off and leave a short tail for sewing.

Ch 4, then crochet an i-cord for 4 rows to make a foot. Fasten off and leave a short tail for sewing.

Sew the foot perpendicular to end of the leg.

Assembly:

Line up the sides with the front and back panels, and sew them together. When you have approximately 2” left before fully sewing BMO closed, stuff with polyfil. Then sew the pieces closed.

Sew the legs to the bottom of BMO’s body.

Cut out the letters “BMO” out of black felt, making the center of the “O” large enough to fit the diameter of BMO’s arms. Align the letters evenly between the left and right sides of the body, making sure the Os are positioned where you want the arms to be. Sew the arms into the center of the Os on each side, then glue down the rest of the letters.

Finishing touches:

Carefully cut out buttons from felt for BMO’s front panel and glue them in the configuration shown below.
