Fact #1: In over 14 years of crocheting, I realized that I didn’t have a single crocheted ornament on my Christmas tree. Fact #2: In over 14 years of crocheting, I’ve never crocheted a granny square in my life. So this year I hit two birds with one stone by crocheting some granny circle ornaments for my tree!
I found a fun pattern for some granny circle ornaments, and got to work!
A few things I’ve learned about granny squares (or in this case, circles): First of all, they’re fun to make! I’ve been missing out this whole time! And second of all, I can finally see how people are able to crochet and watch TV at the same time. Turns out inserting your hook into a big gaping hole is much easier to do without looking vs inserting your hook into individual stitches. Fourteen years of crocheting and I didn’t know! That’s what I get for limiting myself to amigurumi, ha!
I know no-sew patterns are all the rage lately, but the most satisfying part of making these ornaments was definitely sewing the two halves together over the bauble ornaments I got to make these bad boys. EMBRACE THE SEWING, folks. It’s pretty fun pulling the edges together to make a nice rounded ornament.
