新年快樂!

Lunar New Year is just around the corner, and I’ve got a little piggie ready to go!

If you’ve got a copy of my book Literary Yarns, you can modify little Napoleon to be a festive little Lunar New Year piggie! Much friendlier and nicer than a ruthless dictator. 😉

MATERIALS:

  • Napoleon pattern from Literary Yarns
  • Size G crochet hook
  • Worsted weight yarn in pink, red, and gold
  • x2 black 9mm safety eyes
  • Tapestry needle
  • Fiberfill
  • Black embroidery floss and embroidery needle

Using the pattern for Napoleon in Literary Yarns, do the following:

Make the ears, snout, legs and tail as written. Omit the shirt collar, jacket collar, shirt and tie, and monocle.

For the head and body, substitute the taupe yarn with red yarn for rounds 12-19.

Hat:

Using red yarn, use the following directions, crocheting in a continuous spiral:

Round 1: Sc 6 in magic ring. {6 stitches}

Round 2: [Sc 2 in one stitch] 6 times. {12 stitches}

Round 3: [Sc 1, Sc 2 in one stitch] 6 times. {18 stitches}

Rounds 4-6: Sc 18. {18 stitches}

Fasten off and tuck in the end.

Using gold yarn, join at the edge of the hat and crochet the following to make the brim of the hat:

Rounds 1-2: Sc 18. {18 stitches}

Fasten off and weave in the end.

Using gold yarn, sew a french knot to the top of the hat.

Collar:

Using red yarn, ch 50, then turn and crochet the following:

Starting in the 2nd ch stitch from the hook: hdc 48 across.

Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

Using gold yarn, sew a gold border along the edge of the collar using either alternating straight stitches or back stitches.

Sew the collar onto the body, starting two rows from the where the color change between pink and red occurs. The collar will be worn upwards by the piggie!

Using gold yarn, sew some details to the bottom where the two ends of the collar meet.

Perch (or sew!) his little hat onto his head and he’s ready to celebrate! Wishing a prosperous and fortuitous lunar new year to all!

  1. I love this pattern! And I was wondering if you had any intention on creating a Chinese zodiac series pattern for your next book?
